NACBM Staff Reports

The first week of membership recruiting has begun, and Executive Director, Kyle Lyddy, has said the NACBM is off to a great start. According to Lyddy, he has begun reaching out conference by conference letting coaching staff's across the country know about the association. He hopes in turn, coaches will pass along the information to their team managers so that it can grow within the next few weeks.

"The managers who have responded seem genuinely excited about what the goal of the association is," Lyddy said. "Once we reach out to each conference throughout the country, we will begin working as a group."

Lyddy is asking that throughout the next few weeks, managers that have already submitted membership forms, continue to get the word out to schools within their conference.

Matthew Ruder seemed to agree that the NACBM would take off. Ruder, a team manager at St. Louis said, "Fantastic idea. I'll be sure to encourage others to join. I'm more than happy to help in any way needed."

That seems to be the theme from many submitted membership forms.

Rob Hoey, the head manager at Marist College in the MAAC, explained how a group like this could be beneficial to all of us. "Sometimes you need to start from the bottom to get to where you want to be," he said. "But with hard work and dedication, anything is possible."

Lyddy agreed with Hoey saying, "Managers are a unique group when it comes to work ethic. The work that is done is at times unappreciated. The life lessons you get when completing that work however is what makes it all so worth while," he said.

Once the data collection is complete, Lyddy expects to communicate via email and have an online video conference to welcome people to the association and discuss the goals and expectations of the association. This communication is likely to begin in late January. Early February is the expected first release date of the official newsletter "Behind the Bench."

A few years back, managers at the University of Illinois began an initiative called Managers vs. Cancer. This initiative, after some research, seems to have passed. It is however, an initiative that the NACBM would like to pursue and will be discussed with members.
